How to Post Updates and Articles on Your Google Business Profile.

GOOGLE BUSINESS PROFILE · 5 MIN READ · WRITTEN FOR PEOPLE WHO OWN THEIR OWN SITE

Your Google listing has a posts feed most owners have never opened. Posts show up right on your listing when people find you, they signal to Google that the business is alive, and since almost no small business uses them, doing it at all puts you ahead.

01 How to post

  1. Sign in at business.google.com (or the Google Maps app, where your profile has a "Promote" or "Add update" button).
  2. Choose Add update. You'll get a photo slot, text, and an optional button (Call now, Learn more, Book).
  3. Attach a real photo, write two to four plain sentences, pick a button, publish. Done in five minutes.

03 How often

Once a week is excellent. Once a month is still more than most competitors. Posts expire from the featured spot after about a week, which is Google telling you the cadence it wants.

Why this matters beyond looks: Google watches activity when deciding which listings to surface. Fresh posts, fresh photos, and answered reviews all feed the same signal: this business is alive. Alive listings win the map pack.

Q Do posts help my ranking?

Directly, modestly. Indirectly, more: an active listing earns more clicks and calls, and that engagement is what moves you up the map results.

Q Can somebody do this for me?

Yes. Anyone you add as a manager on the profile can post. This is exactly what gets handled on the monthly plan, but the guide exists so you can do it yourself.

Q What should I never post?

Anything you wouldn't put on the shop wall: politics, complaints about customers, other businesses. And don't post stock photos; people can smell them.

Rather have someone who does this every day handle it? That's the $75/mo plan. Or keep going solo, that's the whole point of these guides.
