BAD HABIT DESIGN

The straight answers.

Everything people usually find out the hard way: domains, email, what the packages actually include, and who does what. All of it explained like a human. Read whatever you care about. You choose, I'll advise.

01 The website

What you're actually getting

Not a template with your name swapped in. A site designed for your business specifically: your photos, your real Google reviews on the page, your services, tap-to-call everywhere, and articles written around what your customers actually search for. Built to get found on Google and in the AI tools people ask now: ChatGPT, and the AI answers at the top of Google.

And you see the whole thing finished before you pay a dime. If you don't love it, you've spent nothing and I'll take it down. That's the whole model.

02 The domain

yourshop.com, the address of your business online

A domain is the name people type to find you: yourshop.com. Without one, your site lives on a borrowed address. With one, it's on your name: on your business cards, your truck, your Google listing.

Why it matters

  • It looks real. Customers trust yourshop.com more than a string of free-site gibberish. So does Google.
  • It's portable forever. The domain belongs to you, not to any website company. Change builders, change hosts, the address follows you.
  • It unlocks the email (next section). No domain, no you@yourshop.com.

Who owns it: you

This is the part most website companies get wrong on purpose. Your domain gets registered in your own account, paid by your card, straight to the registrar, usually $10 to $15 a year. It never passes through me, so it can never be held hostage by me. If we part ways someday, you lose nothing.

How to see if your name's free

Takes ten seconds: search it on Cloudflare. That's the registrar I recommend because they sell at cost with no markup games. Type your shop name and see what's available. If your first choice is taken, we get creative together.

Setting it up takes about 20 minutes following my step-by-step guide, or on the monthly plan I wire the whole thing with you on the phone.

03 The email

you@yourshop.com instead of yourshop2012@gmail.com

Once you own the domain, you can have email on it. It's not required, plenty of my clients run fine without it, but here's the honest case for it:

Setup is a follow-along guide (no phone calls with Google required), or on the monthly plan I handle it and hand you working credentials.

04 Two ways to run it

You run it, or I run it. Both are real options.
Option one

Free & Clear

One-time build price, then $0/month to me forever

You own it, you run it, I'm out of the picture.

  • The complete finished site, transferred to your own free hosting account
  • Every file handed over, you own the source outright
  • My step-by-step guides for the domain, email, and Google Business Profile
  • No contract, no strings, no monthly anything to me
Most take this

Run & Managed

$75/mo on top of the build, cancel anytime

Same ownership. I just do all the work.

  • Your Google reviews, live on the site: new five-stars show up automatically
  • Weekly changes: new photos, price updates, hours, whatever you text me
  • Blog posts written and published: the articles that make Google and AI tools recommend you
  • Your Google Business Page managed and posted to: the Maps listing that actually feeds you calls stays fresh, answered, and active
  • SEO & AI-search updates: as Google and ChatGPT change how they pick businesses, your site keeps up
  • Bug fixes and hosting handled: if something breaks, it's my problem before you notice
  • Domain and email wired up with you: set up right the first time, still owned by you
The part that doesn't change either way: you own the site, the domain, and the email. The monthly plan is labor, not rent. Cancel it whenever and everything stays yours. I'll even help you move it. That's not how most of this industry works, and it's the reason I set it up this way.

05 Who does what

The honest division of labor at setup

My part (the complicated bits)

  • Design and build the entire site, load your photos, reviews, and services
  • Connect the domain, set up the email, wire the contact forms
  • Submit the site to Google so it starts showing up, and bake in the search plumbing
  • Write the launch articles that answer what your customers search

Your part (about 10 minutes, and it's on purpose)

  • Create the domain and email accounts in your name, because you should own them, not me
  • Add me as a manager on your Google Business Profile (two clicks, and you stay the owner). That's what lets me post to it, answer reviews, and keep the listing that feeds you calls up to date
  • Click a couple of verify buttons when I ask
  • Send me photos and tell me what you want changed

Every step of your part has a plain-English guide with screenshots. Nobody's left googling anything.

Running it yourself? There's a whole library. Free guides on the Google Business Profile (setup, posting, reviews, phone numbers), domains, and hosting, written so you're never flying blind: the How To library. Send it to anyone, no strings.

06 Getting noticed

A website nobody sees is a business card in a drawer

Getting found is not one thing, it's a loop that feeds itself: fresh reviews make Google trust you, fresh posts keep the listing and the site alive, and the reviews showing up on your site close the people who click through. Each one makes the others work harder.

What the loop looks like

  • Regular posts on the site and on your Google Business Page, so both read as alive, not abandoned
  • A steady drip of reviews, because count, rating, and recency are what move you up the map
  • Those reviews displayed on your site, so the proof meets people at the moment they're deciding
  • The listing maintained: hours right, questions answered, new photos

On the $75/mo plan, we run all of that for you: the posts, the site updates, the Google Business Page, your new reviews appearing on the site automatically. There is exactly one piece we cannot do, and it's the most important one.

Getting the reviews: that part is on you

Nobody can ask for a review like the person who did the work. Two moves, both free:

  • Text every customer right after the service, while they're happiest, with your review link. One tap for them, gold for you.
  • Text your existing book of business once. Every past customer who loved the work is a review sitting unclaimed. Send them this:

"Hey, I just started taking my business presence online seriously, and reviews from great customers like you are the biggest thing that helps. Can you take a moment and give me a review? [your review link]"

In person is even easier, ask at pickup while they're admiring the work. But the existing book is sitting right there in your phone, so you may as well capitalize on it today.

What never to do: buy reviews, trade discounts for them, or have family pile on in one weekend. Google catches patterns and a suspended listing is a catastrophe. Steady and real wins.

09 Straight questions

What happens if I cancel the monthly?

The site stays yours and stays up. You lose the labor (the weekly changes, the blog posts, the review updates), not the property. Restart whenever.

I already have a domain. Does that work?

Perfect, we use it. That usually makes setup faster.

Do I have to do the email?

No. It's the most skippable piece. You can add it in a month or a year. The domain makes it possible whenever you're ready.

How fast is all this?

The site is usually live within a day of your go-ahead. Domain and email add about a day mostly waiting on the internet to catch up.

Why is this so much cheaper than the $3,000 quotes I've gotten?

No office, no sales team, no subscriptions dressed up as services. I build fast because I've built a lot of these, and the price reflects my costs, not an agency's overhead.

What's the catch?

You've got this page. Find one and tell me.

Want to see yours first?

I build it, you look at it, then you decide. That's the order.
