Bad Habit #4: You Have Zero Photos of Your Own Work Online

July 20, 2026 · Nick Lavelle · Bad Habit Design

Bad Habit number four in the series where we roast the online-presence habits quietly costing Texas trade businesses money, then hand you the fix for free. Sit down. This one is going to hurt because it is so easy.

The habit

You have been doing beautiful work for fifteen years. Roofs in Cleburne, driveways in Burleson, detail jobs in Fort Worth that make used trucks look showroom-fresh. And when somebody looks you up online, they find one photo: a blurry logo, or nothing at all.

Meanwhile the guy two towns over, who does worse work than you, has forty photos of finished jobs on his Google listing. Guess who gets the call.

Why it costs you real money

Nobody hires a tradesperson on faith anymore. Before they call, they scroll. They want to see the shingle lines, the clean caulk, the before-and-after where a beat-up sedan turns into glass. A listing with photos tells a customer this is real, this is recent, this person is proud of the work. An empty listing tells them nothing, and nothing loses to something every single time.

Google Business Profiles with photos get roughly 35% more clicks to the website and 42% more requests for directions than listings without them. The photos you never uploaded are the jobs you never booked.

It gets worse. The AI tools people now use to pick a local business, ChatGPT and the rest, lean on what your listing and your pages actually contain. A profile with real photos, captions, and recent activity reads as a live, active business. A bare listing reads as maybe-out-of-business. When a machine is deciding whether to recommend you in Cicero or Berwyn, live beats dead.

The fix

This is the cheapest marketing you will ever do. The camera is already in your pocket.

You are already doing the hard part. The roof is on, the concrete is cured, the truck gleams. The only thing missing is proof, and proof takes thirty seconds and costs nothing.

Your best salesman is not a billboard or a radio spot. It is the photo of the last job you nailed, sitting where the next customer can find it. Right now that salesman is unemployed. Put him to work.
